Psychology Office

The Real Colégio de Portugal has a Psychology Office with experts in childhood and adolescence, fully integrated into school life, working with teachers, assistants and families in the monitoring and development of students.

The psychologist responsible is available to students and their parents.

In nursery and kindergarten, this office collaborates with the pedagogical director and teachers in the early detection of possible learning problems, establishing the appropriate measures to correct them, and being responsible for following them.

In basic education, particularly in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, this office actively participates in the coordination meetings with the administration, the pedagogical directors, with the teachers, being responsible for the cases in which it considers pertinent to intervene with support measures.

The Psychology Office of the Real Colégio de Portugal, centred on the Portuguese-Speaking Group’s motto, “build a greater and better future”, aims to inculcate immediately in the college students a taste for the use of new technologies of information and communication, to promote and facilitate the expression and communication of ideas and the stimulation of cognitive functioning areas which are undeniably relevant to better learning.

It was in this sense that, in pioneering work with children in Portugal, a partnership between the Real Colégio de Portugal’s Psychology Office and the INTRAS Foundation of Valladolid has been established. Since late 2011, a study of computerized cognitive stimulation is being developed, along with students from the 2nd to the 7th year. Our aim is to confirm, not only the relevance of cognitive stimulation in children, but also the significant impact in enhancing the learning process.

In 2012, we focused on balanced growth and identity. We shared, with the 2nd and 3rd cycle teachers, a Workshop of Affections. We set out to contribute to the promotion of a more appropriate emotional experience of the adolescent self-esteem and quality of life.

In the last period of 2011/2012, Workshop of Affections, for the Real Colégio de Portugal’s 1st cycle and kindergarten, will explore and promote with their students both the different emotional expressions and the expression of positive emotions.
